Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada issued 5,000 Invitations to Apply in a French-language proficiency Express Entry draw on August 6, 2026. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score fell to 391, eight points below the previous French draw and the lowest score among the eight most recent French-language rounds.
The draw confirms that French-language selection remains one of the principal pathways through which Canada is inviting economic immigration candidates in 2026. French-speaking candidates have now received 45,500 invitations across nine draws, representing 40.22% of all Express Entry invitations issued this year.
The August 6 round was the third consecutive French-language draw issuing exactly 5,000 invitations. The previous two rounds took place on July 9 and July 22, also inviting 5,000 candidates each. Draw size has therefore remained stable while the CRS threshold has moved sharply downward. The score declined from 420 on July 9, to 399 on July 22, and then to 391 on August 6. This represents a 29-point reduction over 28 days.
A CRS score of 391 is also 13 points below the recent eight-draw average of 404. Within those eight draws, invitation totals ranged from 4,000 to 5,500. The latest round sits near the upper end of that range and indicates that sustained invitation volume, rather than a single unusually large draw, is driving the current decline. The latest result should not be interpreted as evidence that every French-speaking candidate near CRS 391 will immediately receive an invitation. Category-based selection remains competitive, and the threshold can move in either direction depending on the number of eligible profiles, draw frequency and the size of subsequent rounds.
Among candidates scoring exactly 391, only profiles submitted before the specified fecha y hora límite de envío del perfil (en caso de empate) timestamp were ranked high enough for this round.
The 141-day profile age indicates that the draw did not necessarily clear the entire group of candidates sitting at CRS 391.
A later fecha y hora límite de envío del perfil (en caso de empate) date than the July 22 draw also shows that the latest round moved more deeply through the available score range. The July 22 cutoff reached back to November 19, 2025, while the August 6 cutoff moved forward to March 18, 2026, even as the CRS threshold fell by eight points.
French-speaking candidates have received 45,500 invitations through nine draws in 2026. This makes French-language proficiency the second-largest Express Entry selection categoría by total invitations, narrowly behind Canadian Experience Class draws at 48,250 invitations. The distribution is particularly significant because French-language rounds account for only 20% of all Express Entry draws, but they have produced 40.22% of all invitations. The average French draw has therefore issued approximately 5,056 invitations, considerably more than most program-specific or occupation-focused rounds.
Provincial Nominee Program draws occurred more frequently, with 15 rounds, but generated only 6,957 invitations because nomination-based draws are generally smaller and carry much higher CRS thresholds. French-language selection has instead combined moderate CRS scores with consistently large invitation totals. This pattern demonstrates the importance of French proficiency within current federal economic immigration selection. It does not eliminate the requirement to qualify under an eligible Express Entry program, maintain a valid profile and substantiate every factor for which CRS points or category eligibility are claimed.
Across all Express Entry categorías, 113,123 invitations have been issued against the referenced annual planning figure of 123,230. This represents 91.8% of the annual figure, leaving a difference of 10,107 invitations with 147 days remaining in 2026.
The pace suggests that Express Entry invitation activity has been heavily front-loaded. However, the annual immigration plan should not automatically be treated as a strict legal ceiling on Invitations to Apply. Admission targets, application inventories, refusal rates, processing capacity and the timing of permanent residence approvals do not correspond perfectly with the number of invitations issued during a calendar year. IRCC may therefore continue issuing invitations after reaching the planning benchmark, particularly where additional invitations are needed to produce the intended number of completed admissions. At the same time, limited remaining headroom could encourage smaller, more selective or more program-specific rounds during the remainder of the year.
The clearest current trend is stable draw size combined with falling CRS scores. Three consecutive rounds of 5,000 invitations have reduced the cutoff from 420 to 391. Draw intervals have also become relatively consistent, with recent French rounds occurring approximately two weeks apart. Continuation of similar draw sizes could keep French-language CRS thresholds around the high 380s to low 400s. A further decrease would become more likely if invitation totals remain near 5,000 and draws continue at regular intervals.
However, the 141-day fecha y hora límite de envío del perfil (en caso de empate) date indicates that a meaningful number of equal-score profiles may still exist around the current threshold. A smaller draw, a longer interval or a rapid increase in newly eligible profiles could keep the CRS near 391 or cause a temporary increase. The recent eight-draw range also demonstrates that French-language CRS scores remain volatile. Scores have moved between 391 and 420, even while draw sizes stayed within a relatively narrow range of 4,000 to 5,500. Candidates should therefore avoid relying on a single cutoff as proof that the same score will remain sufficient in a later round.
A competitive CRS score does not by itself guarantee permanent residence. Every invited candidate must continue meeting the governing Express Entry program requirements, the applicable category criteria and the conditions in place on the date of invitation. Profiles should accurately reflect language results, work history, education, family composition and any other factor used to calculate CRS points. A material discrepancy between the Express Entry profile and the permanent residence application can lead to refusal and, in serious cases, a finding of misrepresentation.
Candidates close to the cutoff should also consider the fecha y hora límite de envío del perfil (en caso de empate) rule. Submitting a complete and accurate profile earlier can matter when several candidates hold the same CRS score. Updating a profile should be handled carefully because certain changes may affect eligibility, ranking or the effective profile date.

Youssef El Mansouri is a 39-year-old IT support technician from Morocco who currently lives and works in Ontario. After finishing secondary school, he completed a two-year diploma in computer systems and network administration in Morocco. His credential gives him 98 CRS points for education, while his age contributes 55 points. Before coming to Canada, Youssef accumulated three full years of skilled foreign work experience, providing network troubleshooting, user-support, device configuration, and cybersecurity assistance for a mid-sized telecommunications company in Casablanca.
Youssef later secured an employer-supported position with an Ontario technology-services company. His employer obtained a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment, allowing him to work in Canada on an LMIA-based employer-specific work permit. He has now completed one year of authorized skilled Canadian work experience, which contributes 40 points. His education and Canadian experience create 13 transferability points, while his education and official-language proficiency provide another 13 points. His three years of foreign work experience are especially valuable because they combine with his language results for 25 points and with his Canadian experience for another 25 points. His total skill-transferability score is therefore 76 points.
Youssef completed the TEF Canada and received 506 in speaking for 23 points, 488 in listening for 23 points, 575 in reading for 34 points, and 450 in writing for 17 points. These four abilities give him 97 language points. Because his French results meet the required threshold across all four abilities, he also receives 25 additional points for French-language proficiency. Altogether, Youssef’s CRS 391 comes from age at 55, education at 98, language at 97, Canadian experience at 40, transferability at 76, and additional French-language points at 25.

Aïcha Njoya is a 39-year-old software developer from Cameroon who previously studied in Canada but now lives and works in Douala. After several years in administrative and customer-service roles, she decided to change careers and enrolled in the two-year Computer Programming diploma at Humber Polytechnic in Toronto. The credential gives her 98 CRS points for education. Because she completed an eligible two-year program in Canada, she also receives 15 additional points for Canadian education.
Aïcha returned to Cameroon shortly after graduation because of family responsibilities, so she did not obtain skilled Canadian work experience before leaving. Once home, she joined a software-services company as a junior application developer and later moved into a full software developer position. She has accumulated two years of skilled foreign work experience, developing internal business applications, maintaining databases, resolving software defects, and assisting with client implementation projects. Her education combined with language proficiency produces 25 transferability points, while her foreign work experience combined with language proficiency produces another 25 points, giving her 50 transferability points.
Aïcha completed the TCF Canada and earned 18 in speaking for 34 points, 581 in listening for 34 points, 592 in reading for 34 points, and 15 in writing for 31 points. Her language results contribute 133 CRS points. She also qualifies for 25 additional French-language points. Her older sister is a Canadian permanent resident living in Mississauga, giving Aïcha another 15 points for a sibling in Canada. Together with her 15 Canadian-education points, Aïcha receives 55 additional points. Her final CRS 391 consists of 55 points for age, 98 for education, 133 for language, 50 for transferability, and 55 in additional points.

Julien Moreau is a 41-year-old marketing specialist from France who lives in British Columbia with his spouse, Emma Clarke, a 31-year-old citizen of the United Kingdom. Julien holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications, which gives him 112 CRS points as an applicant with an accompanying spouse. His age contributes 35 points. Before moving into his present career, Julien spent several years helping operate a small family retail business and later transitioned into digital marketing and client communications.
Julien has completed two years of skilled Canadian work experience as a marketing specialist, creating digital campaigns, coordinating product launches, analyzing customer-engagement data, and managing relationships with external vendors. His Canadian experience contributes 46 points. His education combined with official-language proficiency generates 13 transferability points, while his education combined with two years of Canadian work experience generates 25 points. His total transferability score is 38 points. Julien completed the TEF Canada, receiving 618 in speaking for 32 points, 602 in listening for 32 points, 611 in reading for 32 points, and 491 in writing for 22 points. His language abilities contribute 118 points, and his qualifying French results add another 25 additional points.
Emma entered Canada through the International Experience Canada Working Holiday program, which is available to eligible United Kingdom citizens. She has a secondary-school diploma and has completed one year of Canadian work experience as a hotel guest-services supervisor. Her education contributes 2 spouse points, and her Canadian experience contributes 5 spouse points. Julien’s final CRS 391 is therefore based on age at 35, education at 112, language at 118, Canadian experience at 46, transferability at 38, spouse factors at 17, and additional French-language points at 25.
CRS Breakdown of Julien: Age (35) | Education (112) | Language (118) | Canadian Experience (46) | Transferability (38) | Spouse (17) | Additional Points (25) | Total CRS (391)
Education is a significant improvement area for all three candidates. Youssef and Aïcha each currently receive 98 education points, compared with the stated maximum of 150, leaving a potential core-score improvement of 52 points. Completing an additional credential could allow either candidate to qualify under the category for two or more credentials, while completing an assessed master’s degree could create an even stronger increase. A new credential may also improve education-related transferability, so the total benefit can be greater than the change in core education points alone.
Julien currently receives 112 education points because he has an accompanying spouse. His stated education maximum is 140 points, leaving room for an improvement of up to 28 core points. A completed master’s degree or another qualifying advanced credential could strengthen both his education score and the transferability combinations connected to education.
Mejorar los resultados del idioma oficial
Youssef has the clearest language-improvement opportunity. His speaking result currently gives him 23 points instead of the maximum 34, leaving 11 points available. His listening result also has room for 11 additional points, and his writing result could rise from 17 to 34, creating a further 17-point improvement. His reading result is already at the stated maximum. In total, higher speaking, listening, and writing results could improve his core language score by as much as 39 points.
Aïcha is already close to the maximum in every tested ability. Her speaking, listening, and reading results are at the stated maximum, while writing contributes 31 of a possible 34 points. Raising only her writing result could therefore add 3 core points. Julien’s speaking, listening, and reading results are also at their stated maximums. His writing contributes 22 points compared with a maximum of 32, leaving a possible 10-point improvement.
Youssef currently receives 40 Canadian-experience points, compared with a maximum of 80, so additional qualifying Canadian work could eventually create up to 40 more core points. His transferability score is already 76 of 100, leaving a maximum improvement of 24 points. Stronger language results, more Canadian work experience, or a higher educational credential could help him reach the transferability ceiling.
Aïcha has no skilled Canadian work experience in the current calculation. Returning to Canada through an eligible work-permit or permanent-residence pathway and accumulating qualifying Canadian experience could eventually move this factor toward the stated 80-point maximum. Her transferability score is 50 of 100, leaving up to 50 additional points. Because she already has strong language results and foreign experience, Canadian work experience and a higher educational credential would be the most relevant ways to strengthen the remaining combinations.
Julien receives 46 Canadian-experience points, compared with a stated maximum of 70, leaving room for up to 24 additional core points. His transferability score is 38 of 100, leaving as many as 62 points available. Additional Canadian experience, stronger writing results, and a higher educational credential could improve several connected factors, although overlapping improvements should not be added mechanically because the transferability category remains capped at 100 points.
A provincial nomination is the largest potential improvement shown in the supplied maximums. Youssef and Julien each currently have 25 additional French-language points. If either receives a qualifying provincial nomination, the additional-points category could rise to its 600-point maximum, producing a net category increase of up to 575 points.
Aïcha currently receives 55 additional points from Canadian education, French-language proficiency, and her sibling in Canada. A provincial nomination could bring the additional-points category to the 600-point maximum, representing a net increase of up to 545 points. The most suitable nomination route would depend on the candidate’s occupation, province of destination, work authorization, employer support, language profile, and whether the province is issuing invitations to candidates with that background.
